|Most of the world's tilapia
may be being produced in China, but when Tony Ong needed
training for the managers of his new joint venture tilapia
hatchery in Hainan he came to us.
At very short notice
we were able to put together a programme of experience
based learning on the practical aspects of tilapia broodstock
and hatchery management at Nam Sai Farms with a focus
on sexing tilapia at small size, handling broodstock,
egg collection, identification of egg stages, sterilizing
eggs, egg and fry quality checking, incubation and hatchery
This is quite a lot to take in over such a short period
but the three trainees performance was excellent and
all reported that they were very satisfied by the programme.
The managers also returned to Hainan with a selection
of hatchery equipment and we expect that Tony and his
partners will be playing an important role in tilapia
seed production in the coming months.
